Facing your fears

There are times when we have to face what we would rather not. Can we avoid it? We can procrastinate at the best of times, but sometimes we have to be brave and confront what we dread.

Sometimes it is guilt, fear or pain. We bottle them up and they can consume us without us realizing. There is never a right time, Fate may nudge us to face things, but sometimes you don’t feel strong enough and that’s okay. We should never try to pressurize ourselves, though internally we may do it subconsciously.

At times I feel guilty that I could have done more with my life, but as much as one says we should not have regrets, deep down there maybe a feeling that ‘I should have known better.’ I try not to beat myself up about it, but those with a conscience will and do.

Facing things in small chunks can drag things out, but maybe the only way, so you can see clearly what needs to be done or understand why. By understanding, it can help us let go of things that have held us back. Sometimes all we need to do is forgive ourselves and remember we are human and not perfect. Forgiving yourself is hard, because you live with what has happened and what you have done or not done. You cannot erase those memories or unlearn what has happened.

All we can do is try to learn and accept what has happened, look at it as a war wound that has healed. The scar may remain, but is barely visible and reminds you of what you have conquered.
